BLOTATO RESEARCH · DATA CHECKED 7 OCTOBER 2026

Social media tools for AI agents: none of the 19 we could price both ways charge extra for MCP, but 12 of 53 document no self-serve API or MCP an agent can publish through

We reviewed 58 social media tools and priced one job at every tool that qualifies: one brand on 9 platforms, one person, and an AI agent publishing one post a day to each account. Of the 19 tools where we could price that job twice, once on the cheapest plan of any kind and once on the cheapest plan that lets an agent publish through MCP, none costs more the second way. Through the HTTP API, which n8n and Make workflows can call, 2 of 23 do. Three more, Publer, SocialPilot and Vista Social, gate their HTTP API above their entry plan in ways we could not price. The bigger gap is access: 12 of the 53 self-serve tools that publish to at least 5 of these platforms document no way for an agent to publish on a self-serve plan.

Key findings

  1. MCP needed no higher-priced plan at any tool we could price. Of the 19 tools where the 9-platform job could be priced both ways, 0 cost more when the agent connects through MCP. On a core set of 6 platforms the result is the same: 0 of 21.
  2. The HTTP API needs a higher-priced plan at 2 tools. Metricool ($42 more a month: Advanced (up to 15 brands) instead of Starter (up to 5 brands)) and Social Champ ($105 more a month: Agency instead of Standard). Both include MCP on the cheaper plan.
  3. Three tools gate agent access higher in ways the counts above leave out, because they could not be priced. Publer puts its API, and its MCP under either of its own readings, on Business or higher, above its Professional plan, and prices extra accounts only in a calculator. SocialPilot offers its API only on a sales-led Enterprise plan, though its MCP is on every paid plan. Vista Social offers its API on Enterprise or an add-on with no published price, and states its MCP plan more than one way.
  4. 12 of 53 self-serve tools document no way for an agent to publish on a self-serve plan. At Agorapulse and Sprout Social (2), the agent can create drafts only. At Apaya, Predis.ai and Sociality.io (3), the agent surface is read-only, generates content without posting, or sits on a sales-led plan. The other 7, Blaze, Later, Loomly, Repurpose.io, Sendible, SocialBee and Velocity Pro, document no public API or MCP that publishes.
  5. 5 more document an agent surface that publishes, but leave the plan or the capability unclear: 1Social, Hootsuite, Ocoya, StoryChief and Zoho Social.
  6. In published plan prices, the 9-platform agent job costs $10 to $149 a month across 25 tools, median $29. The lowest is Post for Me and Postoria. Usage-based X charges, and the cost of the agent itself, come on top.
  7. Posting to X is billed separately at several tools, as a monthly add-on per X account, prepaid credits, per-post pass-through, or your own X developer account. The X costs section lists how each priced tool handles it.
  8. Posting volume changes the price at a few tools. Post meters and published caps move some bills up, or rule a plan out, when the agent posts 3 or 10 times a day per account.

Where agent publishing is not documented

Among the 53 tools with a self-serve price that publish to at least 5 of the 9 platforms, this is where an AI agent stands. A tool counts as letting an agent publish only if its own docs show a call that creates or schedules a post on a self-serve plan. Drafts do not count.

What posting to X adds

X bills developers for API use, and tools pass that on in different ways. Prices include a recurring X add-on where X scheduling requires one. They exclude tax, usage-based X charges and add-ons needed only for posts with links. Usage charges are left out because they depend on how much you post.

How each tool charges for X, from its own pages, checked 7 October 2026.

When posting volume changes the bill

The same 9 accounts, with the agent posting 3 or 10 times a day per account. A plan is ruled out where the tool's own published cap or post allowance is below that volume. Tools that publish no cap are not assumed to be unlimited. Metricool is not ruled out, but above 600 posts per brand a month it reviews the account for fair use, and no posts go out while that check runs. ContentStudio's monthly X allowance applies to the whole plan.

Where vendor pages disagree

Reading every pricing page, help article and rate card side by side turned up places where a vendor's own pages disagree. We report both statements, and say where we chose one for the calculations. This list covers the disagreements that change a figure or a status on this page. Every other disagreement we found, including disagreements on Blotato's own pages, is in the dataset download.

Which Publer plan includes MCP

One Publer help article says MCP is available on the Business and Enterprise plans. The same article later says it is available to Top Ambassadors on the Enterprise plan.

Whether Social Champ charges for X publishing

Social Champ's pricing page says to add X publishing per profile as a paid add-on. Its X Suite help article says normal X posts without a link keep working on the regular plan. This study's prices follow the help article, which is more specific.

Source 1Source 2

Whether Planable's MCP schedules posts

Planable's help centre says the MCP can browse, create, update and schedule posts. A Planable page about its MCP integrations says nothing publishes automatically and the assistant creates drafts. This study leaves Planable's MCP out of the comparison.

Source 1Source 2

Whether StoryChief's MCP publishes

StoryChief's llms.txt says its MCP server lets AI tools publish content directly. Its help article on connecting the MCP lists searching for, creating and updating content, with no mention of publishing. This study counts StoryChief as neither publishing nor drafts-only.

What this means if your agent runs your social media

If your agent works through MCP, no tool we could price needed a higher plan for it, so compare platform coverage, posting caps and X charges alongside plan price. If your n8n or Make workflow calls the HTTP API, check which plan the API is on before you compare. And check that the agent can publish at all: at 2 tools in this study it can only create drafts. If you would rather build on the platforms' own APIs, the social media API cost calculator prices that route.

Blotato publishes this study and sells a hosted social media API and MCP server. Starter is $29 a month for 20 connected accounts, Creator is $97 for 40 and Agency is $499 for 100. API and MCP access is included in every paid plan, and there is no separate API tier and no API add-on. The 7-day trial does not include the API or MCP. Generating an API key ends the trial and starts the paid plan. Blotato sets its own daily posting caps per account, for example 25 posts per 24 hours per Facebook Page, 50 per Instagram account, and 10 per YouTube channel on Starter. On this study's job, Blotato's $29 for one brand is the median, and at 5 brands (45 accounts) its $499 is the highest of the 23 tools priced at that size.

Method

  • The job. One brand with one account on each of X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky and YouTube, one user, and an AI agent publishing one post without a link to each account per day (270 a month). These are the 9 platforms Blotato supports, so we also recomputed the comparison on a core set of 6 (X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube): 0 of 21 tools cost more through MCP there, and 2 of 26 cost more through the HTTP API.
  • The question, set before collection. Does the same job cost more when an agent publishes through the vendor's MCP server or HTTP API? We wrote both possible headlines before computing, and a median is reported only when at least 8 tools contribute to it.
  • Which tools. Every tool named by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity on three pricing questions, every tool vendor in the top 10 Google results for the main pricing searches, and the tools Blotato already tracks: 58 in all. A tool is priced if it has a self-serve price, publishes to at least 5 of the 9 platforms, and its own docs show an API or MCP call that creates or schedules a post on a self-serve plan. Quote-only enterprise products, self-hosted software and automation platforms such as Zapier, Make and n8n are out of scope.
  • Sources. Only each vendor's own pricing pages, rate cards (pricing.md and llms.txt files), help centres, API references and MCP docs. Every value carries a verbatim quote, and a script confirmed each quote appears on the saved page. A second, independent pass re-fetched every source live, checked that each claim says no more than its quote, and searched for missed plans, add-ons and agent surfaces. No product was tested and no endpoint was called.
  • Prices. Month-to-month, in USD, before tax, read on 7 October 2026. Graduated prices are used only where our calculation reproduces every worked example the vendor publishes. Tools priced only in a calculator or in another currency are shown but not compared. A recurring add-on that X scheduling requires is included. Usage-based X charges and add-ons needed only for link posts are not.
  • Unclear cells. Where a vendor states the plan for one connection (MCP or HTTP API) more than one way, or doesn't say which plan includes it, that connection is left out of the comparison. A tool stays priced if its other connection is documented on a stated plan. Where a tool's agent reaches fewer platforms than its app, the job is priced on the platforms the agent can reach.
  • Limitations. These are published plan prices. The cost of the agent or model itself, and of any workflow hosting, is outside the comparison. Prices and plans in this category change often, so each figure is as of the date above. Some vendors show prices only in a browser calculator, and those tools are shown without a price.
QUESTIONS

Social media tools for AI agents FAQs

01 Do social media tools charge extra for MCP access?
Not in this study. Of the 19 tools where both versions of the same 9-account job could be priced from published figures, none charges more when the AI agent posts through MCP. The comparison holds the job fixed: one brand, 9 platforms, one user, one post per account per day, monthly billing. Publer could not be priced, and its own pages put MCP on Business or higher, above its Professional plan.
02 Which social media tools charge more for API access?
2 of 23: Metricool ($42 more a month: Advanced (up to 15 brands) instead of Starter (up to 5 brands)) and Social Champ ($105 more a month: Agency instead of Standard). Both include MCP on cheaper plans, so the higher price applies only when your agent or workflow calls the HTTP API. Three more gate their API higher in ways this study could not price: Publer (Business or higher), SocialPilot (sales-led Enterprise only) and Vista Social (Enterprise, or an add-on with no published price).
03 Can an AI agent publish posts through Hootsuite, Sprout Social or Later?
Only partly, going by what their own pages document. Hootsuite's REST API can publish for approved developers, but its pages don't say which plan includes it, and its publishing MCP (Perch) creates drafts only. Sprout Social's REST API creates drafts only and its MCP is read-only. Later documents no public API or MCP that publishes.
04 How much does it cost to run social media on 9 platforms with an AI agent?
Across the 25 tools priced for this job, the monthly bill for one brand on all 9 platforms with an agent posting runs from $10 to $149, with a median of $29. Some tools also charge separately for posting to X, listed in the X costs section.
05 Why do some social media tools charge for X separately?
X bills developers for API use, so several tools pass the cost on: as a monthly add-on per X account (Metricool, Vista Social), as prepaid credits or per-post pass-through (bundle.social, Postoria, Zernio), or by having you bring your own X developer account (Ayrshare, Outstand).
