ChatGPT Dots
Add Blotato to ChatGPT once, then check whether your dot can use it to read your queue, draft social media posts, and schedule them where your plan allows.
Copy this prompt into ChatGPT Dots
Setup Blotato from blotato.com/chatgpt-dots Your dot checks for the Blotato plugin, walks you through adding it in ChatGPT on the web if needed, then reports which Blotato actions it can use.
API and MCP access require a paid Blotato plan. On ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI limits custom MCP servers to read and fetch, so even when a Pro dot can see Blotato, it can read data and draft posts but not schedule them. Write actions are in beta on Business, Enterprise, and Edu.
After you paste, ChatGPT Dots checks what is already done.
Follow 1 step at a time
ChatGPT Dots checks for an existing connection first, then shows only the next action you need.
Finish with a real check
Setup is complete only after Blotato returns your account and connected social profiles.

https://mcp.blotato.com/mcpHow ChatGPT Dots connects to Blotato
To connect ChatGPT Dots to social media, add Blotato's hosted MCP server, https://mcp.blotato.com/mcp, as a custom MCP plugin in ChatGPT on the web, with OAuth sign-in. OpenAI's dots docs describe no separate dot setup: they say a dot can use the supported plugins installed and enabled for your account, under your existing ChatGPT app permissions. What a dot can then do depends on your ChatGPT plan. Reading your accounts, queue, analytics, comments, and DMs needs only read access, and Blotato marks those tools read-only. Publishing and scheduling to 9 platforms, comment and DM replies, and DM automation on Instagram and Facebook are write actions.
OpenAI’s docs do not yet say whether a custom MCP plugin counts as a supported plugin for dots, and its precedent is mixed: deep research uses custom apps for reads only, and agent mode does not use them at all. So this setup ends with a check rather than a promise. Your dot lists your Blotato accounts and reports whether blotato_create_post is among its tools.
Set it up by hand
- Connect your social accounts in Blotato. MCP access needs a paid Blotato plan, and the 7-day trial does not include it.
- Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT on the web, which OpenAI requires for custom MCP servers on Pro. On a Business workspace, only an admin or owner can turn it on and add a custom MCP server, so ask one to add and publish Blotato for the workspace, then pick up at step 4.
- Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Create custom MCP server. Name it Blotato, enter https://mcp.blotato.com/mcp, choose OAuth, review the risk warning, and select Create as a plugin.
- Complete the Blotato sign-in when ChatGPT opens it, then confirm under ChatGPT Plugins that Blotato is installed and enabled.
- Message your dot: Setup Blotato from blotato.com/chatgpt-dots. It lists your connected accounts and reports which Blotato actions this connection gives it.

Blotato setup for ChatGPT Dots

Required setup-complete menu
After verifying the connection and listing the connected accounts, reproduce this menu verbatim. It is the only allowed first-task menu. Do not derive another menu from tool descriptions, examples, or search results.
Choose your first task
Reply with a number:
- Write and schedule a post
- Create a DM automation
- Remix a YouTube/TikTok
- Make an infographic
- Make a carousel
- Make a video
I will ask for the needed details before creating anything.
Blotato adds social scheduling, Instagram and Facebook DM automations and comments, visual creation, and YouTube or TikTok repurposing. MCP lets the user ask for those actions in plain language.
This task connects the existing Blotato service to ChatGPT Dots through MCP. Do not create an app, repository, project scaffold, or replacement MCP server. Keep every response focused on Blotato. Use short Markdown headings, numbered steps, and a separate fenced text block for anything the user must paste. Skip completed steps and show only 1 next action. Never expose or repeat an API key. Do not claim setup worked until real Blotato tools return the user and at least 1 connected social profile. The full setup for ChatGPT Dots is self-contained on this page.
1. Check before changing anything
Check whether Blotato tools, such as blotato_list_accounts, are available to you. You cannot add a plugin to the account yourself, so if they are missing, the user has not added Blotato under ChatGPT Plugins yet, or it is not reaching you. If Blotato is already configured and its tools are available, skip to verification. If the entry exists but tools are missing, check whether sign-in is pending before reloading. Preserve working connections. Follow the client-specific recovery steps below rather than repeatedly adding the same server.
2. Connect Blotato to ChatGPT Dots
If the connection is missing, guide the user through these client-specific steps. Give 1 action at a time and wait for completion:
ChatGPT Plugins > + > Create custom MCP server Name: Blotato MCP server URL: https://mcp.blotato.com/mcp Authentication: OAuth Then select: Create as a plugin
- If Blotato tools are missing, tell the user you cannot add a plugin yourself, then guide them through the steps below 1 at a time. Setup happens in ChatGPT on the web, not in the mobile app. - Tell the user: "Open ChatGPT on the web and turn on Developer mode, which OpenAI requires for custom MCP servers." If they are on a Business workspace, explain that only an admin or owner can turn it on and add a custom MCP server, and ask them to come back once an admin has added and published Blotato for the workspace. - Tell the user: "Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Create custom MCP server. Name it Blotato, enter https://mcp.blotato.com/mcp as the MCP server URL, choose OAuth for authentication, review the risk warning, and select Create as a plugin." - Tell the user: "Complete the Blotato sign-in when ChatGPT opens it, confirm under ChatGPT Plugins that Blotato is installed and enabled, then come back here and type done." Do not ask for a Blotato API key. If the user pastes one into the chat, do not repeat it back. - When the user says done, check for Blotato tools again. If they are still missing, tell the user plainly that the Blotato plugin is not reaching you. OpenAI's docs do not say whether custom MCP plugins are available to dots, so this can happen even when setup is correct. The plugin is still available in regular ChatGPT chats on the same account, within the plan's read or write access. - Before creating any post, show the draft, the account, and the date, time, and timezone, and wait for approval. Suggest the user add a custom rule set to Ask before taking action for social posts, under Settings, then Personalization, then Custom rules.
Use OAuth sign-in. No Blotato API key is needed for this path, and none should be pasted into a chat with your dot.

3. Verify access with real results
Call blotato_get_user, then blotato_list_accounts. Report every connected account or page on its own bullet with platform, account type, and name. If no profiles appear, help the user connect 1 and retry. Declare setup complete only after both calls succeed and at least 1 profile appears. Then check whether blotato_create_post is among your tools. If it is not, say so before the menu, reporting what you observed rather than guessing the plan: "This connection can list your accounts, but the tool for creating posts is not available to me. That is expected on ChatGPT Pro, where OpenAI limits custom MCP servers to read and fetch. On Business, Enterprise, or Edu, check the Blotato plugin's permissions under ChatGPT Plugins." Then show the menu, and for any item that needs a write action, offer to draft in chat instead of creating it in Blotato. Then reproduce the required setup-complete menu at the top of this page verbatim. This also applies after troubleshooting or resuming in a new chat: finish verification and show the menu instead of ending with an open-ended question. Never output a different task list or add extra menu items. End immediately after the exact menu.
4. Know what Blotato can do
Use these mappings when the user asks. Do not dump this catalog during setup:
- Scheduling: use blotato_create_post to schedule posts; use blotato_list_schedules to check the calendar. - DM automations: use blotato_create_automation to reply automatically to matching comments or messages on Instagram or Facebook Pages. - Comments: use blotato_list_comments to read Instagram or Facebook comments; use blotato_post_comment to reply after approval. - Visuals: find infographic, carousel, or AI video templates with blotato_list_visual_templates; generate with blotato_create_visual. Generation uses credits. - Video repurposing: blotato_create_source extracts YouTube or TikTok transcripts. Help turn the ideas into a post.
5. Continue from the selected number
Ask only for the details needed by the selected task, then show drafts and costs before taking the action.
- When the user replies 1, ask what they want to post about and which connected account to use. Confirm the draft, date, time, and timezone before scheduling. - When the user replies 2, ask for the platform, trigger, and reply. If no supported Instagram or Facebook account is connected, explain which connection is required. - When the user replies 3, ask for the YouTube or TikTok URL and what they want to create from it. - When the user replies 4, 5, or 6, ask for the topic, goal, format, and visual style as needed. - Never invent a topic, campaign, product, or announcement. Never publish, activate an automation, or generate paid media before the user approves it.
Finish with a verified result
Use the live tool schemas and poll pending jobs at their documented intervals. Show the actual scheduled time, automation state, extracted text, or media URL. Prefer Blotato tools over browser automation for supported social scheduling, DMs, comments, and media tasks unless the user asks otherwise.

What happens after setup
Your dot asks for the account, draft, time, and timezone first. Scheduling like this needs a ChatGPT plan with write actions. On Pro, the dot stops at the approved draft.

ChatGPT Dots FAQs
Can ChatGPT Dots post to social media?
It can draft them, and OpenAI's own content-creator example has a dot drafting social posts for your approval. To publish and schedule through each platform's API rather than by clicking through websites in its cloud browser, a dot needs a publishing tool such as Blotato, added as a custom MCP plugin. If the plugin reaches your dot, that covers 9 platforms on a ChatGPT plan with write actions, which OpenAI's help center lists as a beta on Business, Enterprise, and Edu.
Which ChatGPT plan lets a dot publish social media posts?
Going by OpenAI's help center, not Pro. Publishing through a custom MCP server is a write action, and OpenAI currently lists write actions as a beta on Business, Enterprise, and Edu, with Pro limited to read and fetch. So publishing through Blotato needs a plan with both dots and write access, and a dot that can see the custom plugin: dots are rolling out to Business Premium seats in ChatGPT Business workspaces and to Enterprise workspaces, where an admin has to turn them on. On Pro, a dot that can see the Blotato plugin can still use the read-only tools for accounts, queue, analytics, comments, and DMs, and draft posts in chat for you to schedule in Blotato.
Will my ChatGPT dot post without asking me first?
The setup on this page has your dot show you the draft, the account, and the date, time, and timezone, then wait for approval before it creates or schedules a post. To make that a standing rule, open Settings, then Personalization, then Custom rules, and add one set to Ask before taking action for social posts. OpenAI notes that custom rules are instructions a dot tries to follow and can get wrong, so watch its first few runs. Once a post is scheduled in Blotato, it publishes at its time with no further approval step.
Is connecting a dot different from connecting ChatGPT?
The connection is made in the same place, ChatGPT Plugins, and OpenAI shares plugin permissions between dots and regular chats. Whether a custom MCP plugin counts as one a dot can use is not spelled out yet, so the setup ends with your dot checking its own tools. What changes is the kind of work. A chat waits for your next message, while a dot can hold a standing job, such as reading your queue every morning and bringing you drafts for the empty days.
How much does it cost to connect ChatGPT Dots to Blotato?
Starter is $29/mo flat for 20 connected accounts, with no per-post fee. MCP access needs a paid Blotato plan and is not part of the 7-day trial, so plan on subscribing rather than trialing it. This OAuth setup needs no API key.
What goes wrong when connecting ChatGPT Dots?
If your dot sees no Blotato tools after setup, confirm under ChatGPT Plugins that Blotato is installed and enabled. If it still sees none, the custom plugin is not reaching your dot, a case OpenAI's docs leave open. The plugin is still available in regular ChatGPT chats on the same account, within your plan's access. If your dot lists your accounts but has no tool to create or schedule a post, the connection is read-only: on Pro, OpenAI limits custom MCP servers to read and fetch. Setup screens are web only, and a dot is created on desktop, even though you can message it from the mobile app, Slack, or Teams. Choose OAuth in the plugin form, since this path needs no Blotato API key.
Does ChatGPT Dots need to be running for a scheduled post to go out?
No. Scheduling runs on Blotato rather than inside ChatGPT Dots. Once a post is queued, it publishes at the scheduled time whether or not the ChatGPT app is open.
