    HOW IT WORKS

    Type, pick a tab, paste

    1. Type your text

Your name or a server announcement. All three tabs update as you type.

    2. Pick where it is going

Fonts for your name and server names. Markdown or color text for messages. Click a line to copy it.

    3. Paste into Discord

Into your profile under User Settings, or straight into the message box. Send a test before a big announcement.

    WHERE EACH ONE WORKS

Discord text formatting: which field takes what

Most "my Discord font is not working" problems come from pasting the right thing into the wrong field. Fonts are characters, so they work in names and messages but not in your username, which needs plain letters. Markdown and color are message formatting, so in a name they show up as literal asterisks and codes.

    PICKING A STYLE

The best Discord font for your name

Sans Bold is the safe default: it reads cleanly in a busy member list and styles digits too. Bold Script and Bold Gothic are the decorative picks for gaming and roleplay servers. Small Caps is the quietest look and the nearest thing to small text in a name.

Frames and effects cost characters. ★彡 彡★ adds six, so a 27-character name inside it is already over the limit, and strikethrough or underline adds one per letter. The count on each row adds it up for you.

    CROSS-POSTING

Cross-posting from Discord: what carries over

Discord renders markdown in messages. Instagram and X do not, so **launch day** pasted there shows the asterisks, and a colored code block turns into a wall of escape codes. Unicode fonts are the one output that keeps its look on other platforms, since they are plain characters.

So write the update twice: markdown for Discord, plain text for your feeds. For the social version, the LinkedIn text formatter and the Facebook font generator handle bold and italic, and the Twitter character counter shows what styled characters cost against X's 280.

    FAQ

    Discord font questions

01 Is this Discord font generator free and private?
Yes. No signup and no usage limits. Everything is generated in your browser, nothing is sent to a Blotato server, and the tool is masked from the site's session analytics.
02 What font does Discord use, and can I change it?
Discord uses its own typeface, gg sans. Nitro's Display Name Styles can set your display name in a font such as Tempo or 8Bit, and free accounts can only preview it. The free route is Unicode: the Fonts tab swaps each letter for a lookalike character, and because those characters are the name itself, they show without Nitro.
03 Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
No. Usernames only take lowercase a to z, 0 to 9, underscores, and periods. Your display name and server nickname accept styled text, and those are what people see next to your messages.
04 Can people still @mention me if my name uses a fancy font?
Yes. Discord matches mentions on your display name or your username, and your username is always plain text.
05 How long can a Discord display name or nickname be?
32 characters. Each font row shows its count and turns amber past 32. Strikethrough and underline roughly double the count, and Discord does not publish how it counts styled letters, so treat anything near 32 as borderline.
06 How do I make small text in Discord?
Start a line with -# and a space. Discord shows that line as smaller subtext. For a name, use Small Caps instead.
07 How do I bold, strikethrough, or spoiler text in Discord?
Strikethrough: wrap the text in two tildes, ~~like this~~. Bold: two asterisks, **like this**. Spoiler: two vertical bars, ||like this||. The Markdown tab builds each one.
08 Why is my Discord formatting not working?
Usually a missing space or a symbol that is not at the start of the line. Headers, subtext, quotes, and lists need both, as in # Title. Markdown inside a code block shows as plain text, spoilers included. And names never render markdown, so use the Fonts tab there.
09 How do I type colored text in Discord?
Discord colors text inside a code block tagged ansi, using an invisible escape character most keyboards cannot type. The Color text tab writes the block for you, using the newer colors Discord moved to in 2026, a change Rebane's Discord Colored Text Generator documented when it updated in August 2026. It shows on desktop and in the browser. The mobile apps have generally shown it as plain text, so check a test message on your phone.
10 Should I use fonts or markdown in Discord messages?
Markdown, when it can do the job. Markdown bold is your real text, so screen readers and search handle it normally. Font-style bold is lookalike characters that screen readers often skip. Save the fonts for your name.
11 Why do some Discord fonts show up as boxes?
Usually because the viewer's device has no font for that style, or because the generator used an empty slot. Unicode's mathematical alphabet has 24 gaps, such as script B and italic h, whose letters live in another block. This tool maps all 24 to the real characters. If someone still sees boxes, try a plainer style like Bold.
12 Do I need Discord Nitro for fonts or colored text?
Not for anything this page makes. Fonts, markdown, and colored text all work on a free account.
